The selection of a specific way of transporting goods depends on many factors. The factors that decide how to best transport the given goods are the quantity and weight of the cargo. One of the main variants is full truckload transport that may take place in form of local or international transport.

Full Truck Load

Full Truck Load transport is usually designated with the English abbreviation FTL.Full Truck Load transport is generally used to carry larger loads of cargo that occupies the whole loading area of the truck.

What is FTL transport? When is it best to use it? What is the course of actions?

The main characteristic of this type of transport is the fact that the ordering party leases the whole loading area for transport. As opposed to general cargo transport, the fee is paid not for a specific delivery but for the possibility to load the full truck.
Therefore, the cost of the project is calculated based on the loading capacity of the vehicle, regardless whether the Customer will use the whole space or not.

In practice, this means that the price will be fixed both if the trailer is half loaded and if it is loaded to the maximum capacity. However, one should remember about the standards for each type of trailer and never exceed the limits of acceptable load.

Using FTL transport

From the economic point of view, this type of transport will be best suited for situations when it is necessary to carry a larger load that may occupy the whole available space of the trailer. This type of services is usually used by larger companies that do not wish to share the space with other suppliers or that want the goods to be delivered quickly, without any stops on the way. Moreover, the routes of FTL deliveries are selected based on cost-efficiency.

It is also reasonable to use this type of transport to carry valuable goods that must be delivered relatively quickly and are unsuitable for longer routes. The time of delivery is of the essence here. Full Truck Load transport guarantees fast delivery and a predefined route.

What is the course of actions?

In the simplest terms, the goods are transported directly from point A to point B, without the need to store or handle them. The first step is the arrival at the loading site. Then, the route leads directly to the recipient’s location, where the goods are unloaded. As it was mentioned before, this allows eliminating any stops and the need to handle the goods.

Unlike in the case of general cargo transport, we are dealing with two entities: one sender and one recipient. The goods may be transported at short distances or to destinations that are hundreds of kilometres away. The service is completed after delivering the goods to the specified location and unloading them.
